What Counts as an Emergency
Not every fault needs an immediate visit, but some do. We move these to the front of the schedule whenever we can:
- A refrigerator or freezer that has fully failed, putting a stocked Sub-Zero or a wine collection at risk.
- Water actively leaking from a unit onto hardwood, cabinetry or a finished basement below.
- A gas smell or a burner that will not shut off on a range or cooktop.
- An oven stuck on with no response to the controls.
- Ice or frost that has jammed a mechanism and threatens further damage.
What to Do While You Wait
Refrigerator or Freezer Failure
Keep the doors closed to hold the cold as long as possible. A closed built-in Sub-Zero holds temperature longer than most people expect. Move the most perishable and valuable items, including wine, to a working unit or a cooler with ice. Note when the failure started so the technician can narrow the cause.
Active Leak
Shut off the water supply to the appliance if there is an accessible valve, and place towels to protect flooring. For a dishwasher or ice maker, stopping the supply usually stops the leak until we arrive.
Cooking Appliance
If a burner or oven will not respond, turn off the unit at the wall or the gas shutoff if it is safe to reach, and keep the area clear. Do not attempt to disassemble a gas component.
